CAGARA<br \/>\n<em>Democracy and Freedom Watch<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Javakheti\u2019s Armenian community celebrated the opening of a new church in the village of Didi Aragiali.<br \/>\n<\/strong><br \/>\nA ceremony of opening a new church in the village of Didi Aragiali of Ninotsminda municipality inhabited by ethnic Armenian majority was held on 13 October, news portal jnews.ge reports. The church bears name Surb Khach (\u2018Holy Cross\u2019) and was opened by representatives of the Armenian Apostolic Church in Georgia.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_1765\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1765\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/covcasbulletin-info.hhd.am\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Covcas-Georgia-Didi-Aragiali-Armenian-Church.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-1765\" src=\"https:\/\/covcasbulletin-info.hhd.am\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Covcas-Georgia-Didi-Aragiali-Armenian-Church-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"Opening of the construction (armenianchurch.ge)\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/covcasbulletin.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Covcas-Georgia-Didi-Aragiali-Armenian-Church-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/covcasbulletin.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Covcas-Georgia-Didi-Aragiali-Armenian-Church.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-1765\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Opening of the construction (armenianchurch.ge)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The opening and consecration ceremony was led by the head of the Georgian Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church, bishop Vazgen Mirzakhanyan.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The first part of the consecration ceremony called Drnbatsek (\u2018Opening of the Doors\u2019) was held on the evening of 12 October. The ceremony symbolises opening of the Gates of Heaven. On the following day, the ceremony of consecration of the church\u2019s interior was held involving consecration of the church\u2019s sixteen columns symbolising the Twelve Apostles, two evangelists, the Apostle Paul, and St Gregory the Illuminator, the baptismal font, and holy icons. The walls of the church were anointed with holy oils.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The first service was attended by the heads of Ninotsminda and Akhalkalaki municipal governments as well as guests from Armenia and the Russian Federation.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Construction of the church began in the summer of 2014 with financial support of Russia-based philanthropists Artur Isoyan and Aida Sanosyan-Isoyan, who were born in Didi Aragiali.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Georgian diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church has jurisdiction over two churches in Tbilisi, forty-two churches in Samtskhe\u2013Javakheti, nine churches in Kvemo Kartli, and one church in Batumi.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<div class=\"mh-excerpt\"><p>By DOMINIK K.
