May 22, 2014: Today, the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) ruled on the case of the Ilgar Mamedov, leader of the Azerbaijani opposition movement REAL.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">According to the <a title=\"Judgement Mammadov vs. Azerbaijan\" href=\"http:\/\/hudoc.echr.coe.int\/sites\/eng-press\/pages\/search.aspx?i=003-4767289-5801220#{%22itemid%22:[%22003-4767289-5801220%22]}\" target=\"_blank\">verdict<\/a> of ECHR, the courts in Azerbaijan have violated Ilgar Mammadov&#8217;s rights to liberty (Article 5.1 and 5.4 of the European Convention on Human Rights), right to presumption of innocence (Article 6.02) , and his right not to suffer from unjustified restriction of freedom (Article 5-18). THE ECHR verdict directed the Azerbaijani government to pay 22,000 Euro to Ilgar Mammadov in compensation of suffering these violations.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Ilgar Mammadov was arrested and sentenced by the Court of Grave Crimes to 7 years iin jail based on what was widely belived in Azerbaijan and internationally, as fabricated charges of organizing mass riots in Ismayilli on 23-24 January 2013 (Azeri Report).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<div class=\"mh-excerpt\"><p>Azeri Report STRASBURG.
