Representatives of the teaching staff of the local university as well as directors of schools from rural communities took part in the meetings.

Given the fact that the region is settled by national minorities, the meetings focused on the benefits the teachers can get during the reforms in the system, the Georgian Ministry of Science reports.

Earlier, the teachers of comprehensive schools didn’t take qualifying exams in their mother tongue which affected their professional activities and motivation, the Ministry stressed.

Now, within the new policy of professional growth of teachers, teachers of schools in regions populated with national minorities can have facilitated options of studying the Georgian language. They will also take advanced training in their mother tongue.

Also, bilingual teachers will be given new opportunities, the Ministry notes.

All the programs will be available from the new academic year, in the University of Samtskhe-Javakheti as well.
