For more than two decades Armenia and Azerbaijan have been locked in conflict over the region of Nagorno-Karabakh, which lies in Azerbaijan but has a majority population that is ethnic Armenian.
During fighting in the 1990s both sides planted thousands of mines in the small mountainous self-declared republic, posing a serious risk to the public.
The UK-based charity HALO Trust has been operating in the area since 2000 and has cleared hundreds of mine fields, but many more remain.
