There’s an ongoing collusion between sports and politics. The European Games in Baku accomplished one thing above all – strengthening the authoritarian regime in Azerbaijan. Sport Inside reports on the repercussions of the Games, where organized sport is once again attracting attention for its silence.

“Sport has become a business. Sport is politics,” says Christoph Strässer, the German Federal Government Commissioner for Human Rights Policy and Humanitarian Aid. “The main question concerning large sporting events, in my opinion, is the question of money. Who pays the best? That is most easily done in a country where events can be organized without citizens protesting.”
